WELCOME BACK TO THE KITCHEN
It is a joy to read through, and be trusted to hold, the creative energy of so many. In each issue of Disco Kitchen, we grow more deeply in our mission to provide a space (on and off the page) for artists to be in community with one another.
As editors of this magazine, we want to create worlds that don’t just live in our laptops, journals, notes app as singular, insulated moments. We understand the privilege, responsibility, and enormous value of externalizing the lived experiences of others, through their art, in our magazine.
Since the release of Volume 2, we’ve hosted a combined reading and dance party to celebrate our second issue, we’ve developed public, micro-workshop courses to share in-progress work, we’ve organized generative writing events for those who want to be and write in the presence of other people. In all of this, the act of being together has been our bright north star.
Community is one of the most powerful ways for us to turn the lights on when the world feels so dark. Turning to people who reflect and ask questions of the world. People who wonder and welcome uncertainty. People who care about their neighbors as beloved, who deserve dignity, care, and safety.
A better world is possible. We just need to keep moving forward together. Perhaps, along the way, we might get a little bruised, what’s broken will need mending, but we’ll keep telling stories, we’ll keep lighting the way.
